How To Take Wrinkles Out Of Needlepoint Rugs And Keep Them Flat

If you have a needlepoint rug that seems to keep moving and not lie flat, there are a few things you can do to try to fix this problem. The reason a needlepoint rug keeps moving is because of its light weave. Needlepoint rugs need the right rug pad under them to grab the rug while keeping it held to the floor. The stubborn wrinkles in needlepoint rugs usually mean that the rug was folded and stored somewhere before you purchased it. The wool, or fabric, is crushed from folding and needs to be relaxed.

There are two ways to remove wrinkles from a needlepoint rug. First, if your rug has crease lines, they need to be steamed. When a needlepoint rug is folded for a while, it seems to get fold lines. These fold lines cause ridges in the rug. Depending on whether the rug was folded inside out or right side in, the ridges could be forming on the back of the rug or the front. The best way to remove these ridges is by steam. Take a cloth or towel and wet it with water. Next, lay the wet towel on top of the fold mark ridges in the needlepoint rug. Now, place the hot iron on this towel and press down and in the direction of the ridge. Keep this going until you steam the entire folded ridge lines.

The next and final step in keeping your needlepoint rug flat and wrinkle free is by placing the right rug pad under your rug. The rug pad should be dense with a non slip lower surface.
