Why do Muslims over-react with murder and violence?

On February 24 1989, Khomeini offered a U.S.$ 3 million bounty for the death of Salman Rushdie, who was then forced to live for a time under British-financed security.

Meanwhile, further violence occurred around the world, with the firebombing of bookstores in Berkeley, California which stocked the novel, and the offices of The Riverdale Press, a weekly newspaper in The Bronx, in response to an editorial which defended the right to read the book. On February 24, five people were shot and killed by the police during a protest outside the British consulate in Bombay. Several other people died in Egypt and elsewhere

In 1991, Rushdie's Japanese translator, Hitoshi Igarashi, was stabbed and killed at the university where he taught in Tsukuba, Ibaraki, north of Tokyo, and his Italian translator was beaten and stabbed in Milan.

Thirty-seven people died when their hotel in Sivas, Turkey was burnt down by locals protesting against Aziz Nesin, Rushdie's Turkish translator.

Psoriasis and Its Treatment With Garra Rufa Fish

Psoriasis is a skin disorder that can affect both males or females. It is an inflammatory of the skin with symptoms that include widespread redness, severe itching, and pain. Red rashes appear on the surface of the skin and begin to itch. They form plaques over the reddened lesions covered by silvery white scales which are actually dead skin cells. These flaky skin build up mainly on the knees, elbows, scalp and trunk or any other body parts. This type of discomfort and pain can affect the patient's quality of daily life. It can also affect the lives of the family members who have to live with their sufferings in the same house. More serious stage of the skin inflammation can lead to inflammation of the joints, which we commonly call "arthritis".

There is unfortunately no known cure for Psoriasis currently. Skin specialists or dermatologists can only recommend or provide short term treatments which would be different from one patient to another. That means the treatment can only clear Psoriasis for only a certain period of time. There are various conservative forms of treatments that may leave you wondering which one is true.

We can generally find 3 categories of conventional treatments for psoriasis i.e.:

- Topical treatment is applied to the skin for mild to moderate Psoriasis
- Photo treatment is light, usually ultraviolet, applied to the skin) for moderate to severe Psoriasis
- Systemic treatment is to be taken orally or by injection or infusion) for moderate, severe or disabling Psoriasis.

The new products like Theraflax and z-92 may help but as of now, patients have not obtained its full effect.

Recently, a new alternative method of psoriasis treatment is with the use of live fish called "Doctorfish" (or Garra rufa). This practice of using fish to treat itchy skin was first used in the small towns of Kangal and Sivas in Turkey where they are largely found in the area. The spa at Kangal has been a popular psoriasis treatment centre since 1988.People with this skin disorder have been flocking here to have their infected skin nibbled at by the doctor fish. These doctor fish live and breed in outdoor pools of some Turkish spas but now they are pretty popular in the Asian countries like Japan, Taiwan and most recently, Singapore. These fishes live in warm waters of high temperatures of around 36C. The water condition does not produce enough nutrients for the fish with voracious appetite so they feed well on dead scabby skin of psoriasis sufferers. These fishes will not nibble their healthy skin which will be left to grow. The saliva in the mouths of the doctor fish is the vital element in the treatment . In addition, the selenium- rich waters of the spa are also helpful in the treatment of psoriasis too.

However this type of treatment can provide temporary relief only but is not a cure for the skin disorder. It is reported by psoriasis patients that it does help and thus doctor fish spas have sprouted in many countries like Japan, Germany or Singapore.
