The element of luxury with which an Oriental carpet is associated today provides a marked contrast with its humble beginning among the nomadic tribes. Then it was an article of necessity to protect the tribes from the bitterly cold winters of the country. Although cotton was used for the warp and weft of the carpet wool became the basic weaving material for carpets. This material as well as silk are still used today to weave authentic Persian carpets. A key feature in making the carpets is the bright colors used to form the intricate designs and patterns. . Size: 2.3 x 2.8 . Type: Persian. Category: Square Small. Woven: Hand Knotted. |

The Persian Carpet of Extraordinary Size
Choosing A Rug To Enhance Your Living Room
Adding an area rug to your living room can tie the room together and bring it to life. You can use an area rug to define seating areas or to add a little color to an all too neutral space. As you are looking for a rug for your living room, consider the size, shape and style that will look the best in your space.
Picking the Size
Usually if you are adding an area rug to your living room it goes under the coffee table. If there is no coffee table, then it goes in front of the couch. If you are placing an area rug in this spot, make sure that it is large enough to include all four legs of the coffee table and make sure that it encompasses the couch. You want to keep some level of symmetry with your carpet placement, and it can go in front of the couch, under the entire couch, or maybe even under the front half of the couch. Then you can place additional seating around the carpet and coffee table. Standard area rugs come in 4' X 6' and 6' X 9'.
If you have a really big living room, you can use more than one area rug to define conversational groupings in the room. You may have one grouping of chairs around the fireplace, so that is where one of you area rugs would go. Then you may have another conversational grouping with your couch and coffee table more towards the center of the room, and that is where another area rug would go. Make sure that the carpets relate to each other either in color or design to help the room feel cohesive.
Setting the Style
If you are decorating a room from scratch, then you can choose any carpet that you wish, but if you are adding an area rug into an existing room, you want to consider colors and patterns that are already in place. If you already have a lot of color going on in the room, you may want your carpet to be understated. You can either blend it with the floor, or choose an existing bold color in the room and use that in your carpet. If the room is rather drab, you may want to use this as an opportunity to add an interesting focal point to the space.
If you are adding the rug to a modern space look for geometric designs, for country consider a braided rug, animal prints work for more eclectic rooms try and for a formal room is always wonderfully accented with a Persian carpet.
Material
Rugs can be made of either natural or synthetic fibers. The most common natural fibers used are wool, cotton, jute and sisal, and the most common synthetic fibers are polypropylene and nylon.
Frequently where you are placing the rug determines the best materials for it. For example, if the area gets a lot of foot traffic, you may want to use a polypropylene rug because it is durable and stain resistant. However, in a sitting area, you may prefer wool or cotton for its lush softness.
