How to get an area rug to stay in place on carpet?

How do you get an area rug to stay in place on plush carpet? I have a rubber backer, but the area rug keeps moving and bunching up anyway. I have to keep the area rug down because my carpet is white and I have a 1-year-old son and a Great Dane. Not a good combination for keeping the carpet clean.

The backing that you can add can be bought either on a roll or you can buy it in different sizes in packages. There are a few different types so get the one that is made for carpet over carpet. You can get these antwhere that sells carpet. or big box staores. know your rug size when you go.These mats feel tacky but will not leave a residue. They will loose that tackiness over time from normal dirt ( not any a 1 year old would do of course lol) and pet hair. What is wrong with my area rug?

We have an area rug over a carpet, no rubber underlaying, it's just a rug over a carpet. The rug is starting to curl/crease/wrinkle in the middle. Why is that? It was a fairly cheap rug. Is that why? Or because we have nothing under it but carpet? Something else?

May be the quality, may be spot with most traffic area or . .
probably too thin of an area rug. The thickness and weight of an area rug would stay flat better. You may need some sort of padding, or something stiff that you can use two sided tape to stick to back of area rug. Cardboard may work but then the area rug would have a slippery 'backing' and may not stay put.
