could one use detangler to get out matts in persian cats' hair?

I was reading and that occured to me. I have never had a persian or a long haired cat till now and he grooms himself ALLLL the time. He has not had matts or tangles. I am just asking because i am curious. Kids get tangles,and so do long-haired cats,so i was just wondering...

Johnson & Johnson No more tangles sahmpoo works great and is safe. Also if there are mats already and they aren't wound too tight against the skin rubbing plain cornstarch into the mat and letting it sit for a while will help take the mat out..just simply comb.
