I am trying to remove OLD carpet off my outdoor porch. I need ideas about removing.?

Indoor/Outdoor Carpeting
Glued down
REALLY OLD

You will need lots of elbow grease and some patience.
A scraper and a bit of heat will remove it in no time.
Use a small Propane torch but be very careful.
It works like a charm to remove the glue. Scrap as you warm up the glue.

Things you should avoid doing on carpets

Carpets are very large investments for any household. It is not a thing, which can be bought everyday. You spend a lot of money to buy even a single carpet. You should therefore be careful while using it. There are many things, which you should not do when you are sitting on a carpet. First, you should not bring dirty shoes on it. Try to use different shoes for outdoor and indoor uses.

If you bring the same shoes inside with which you have gone out, the carpet is likely to get dirt on it. You should put a separate pair of shoes just on the entrance to your house. When you come home, you should take off you shoes and wear that pair to go inside. A little bit of care can make a huge difference.

Another thing which you should avoid doing is smoking on it. There are many dangers associated with smoking near carpets. If ashes drop on the carpet the carpet can immediately catch fire or it can get burnt. In addition to that the ashes which fall from the cigarettes are very hard to clean. They spread very quickly around and you may not be able to clean them completely from your carpets. Do not fire a match on or near any carpet.

Flames fly quickly and catch the objects, which are sensitive to flames and fire. Also, avoid eating too much while sitting on the carpets. It is better to use a dining table or put any kind of cloth on the carpet and eat on it instead. You should therefore be very careful how you use your carpet.
