Anyone have advice on choosing wall color to compliment floor and room?

Is there a website or a store or phone number where I can get free advise on choosing wall colors? If not how do I find a good designer in my area to suggest colors? I am fixing up my house for sale and am looking to repaint my house so it looks its best and compliments the various room sizes and flooring. For example, my open kitchen/dining/living room has light oak flooring in the living and dining area, white marble in the entry area, light pinkish ceramic tiles in the kitchen area, white cabinets, black counter tops and appliances, and lots of windows and sliding doors and is vaulted with exposed wood beams. Our style is rustic traditional and this is a middle class neighborhood. We were thinking a light grey? We want it to be neutral.

Look through some decore magazines to look for the effect you are looking for. You are the one who will have to live with it, so you're opinion matters most.

It's really hard to imagine how a colour will look painted on the wall of your house.

The only technique which is reliable is to go to the harware shop, buy yourself some sample colours which look like they might produce the effect you want. If you do this, you will save yourself the disappointment of getting something that isn't quite what you want.

I wouldn't get grey myself - I went for two shades of light sandy brown in my home, one darker than the other - but you wouldn't notice that unless it was pointed out. I've made some of the rooms light and some a bit dark to try to create a little atmosphere. Anyway, you are the one who will have to look at it.
