which paint colour to go with?

hi guys, please help!
We're moving into our new house next week. It has dark terracotta(kind of brown tint to it) carpet, we have ivory/cream leather sofas & a couple of red floor lamps. We wanting to paint the walls in neutral colours but would really appreciate your genuine advice. what colour wall & ceiling paint should we choose, and what colour accessories to complement the deco? PLEASE NOTE: we cannot afford to change the carpet or the sofas just yet. I forgot to mention that this would be our living room. We want it to look modern but NOT drastic. thanks very much for all your advice.

Paint the walls the color of coffee with too much cream. Then try to find accent colors in the way of pillows, a small area rug under the coffee table and accessories in the colors of autumn. This will allow the room to be warm and inviting.

The colors of autumn are reds, rusty oranges and golden yellows with some sage greens. These colors can be found in fabrics (drapery and or decorative pillows) and used throughout the rest of the room. You may even want to find the color inspiration in an accessory you have yet to find. Often a shopping trip will help you decide on which direction to go in, color wise.

I often take the credit card and go buy a ton of accessories and take 'em home to try out. I keep what I like and what works and then return the rest. Sometimes it takes just that one object to inspire your entire room.

If you feel the red floor lamps are no longer working for your new place, you can easily spray paint them. Spray paint is amazing these days as there are so many colors available and the new metal and metallic finishes can transform just about any object.
