Farm Natural

Is there anything natural I can feed my Dwarf Hamster?
I am out of food for my Dwarf Hamster and I need an idea for a natural food resource.I live on a farm, so I can get really anything I need but it needs food. I'm giving it Bird food for now, any answers?
Well, my sister has a dwarf hamster, and I know for sure that you are not supposed to feed them sunflower seeds. But they can eat pretty much any other natural garden grown fruit or vegetables. Here you go, I found this off of a dwarf hamster site:
Feast Fit For a Hamster
1) Lettuce
2) Oats
3) Dry Catfood
4) Bread 'n milk (for mothers-to-be)
5) Broccoli
6) Apple
7) Peanut Butter (mine seem to prefer creamy)
Shredded Cheese
9) Tomatoes
10) Carrots
11) Corn
12) Dog Biscuits
13) Cooked meat (make sure it is cool)
14) Yogurt (avoid yogurt with sugar)
15) Berries (make sure they're well-washed)
16) Pumpkin (without the seeds)
Read this section CAREFULLY!
WARNING: Several other types of vegetables and fruit can be given to your hamster, but be careful! Always choose healthy, clean fruits and veggies. Avoid oranges and other citric fruits. They are high in acidity and can cause problems. Also, don't overfeed green vegetables (such as lettuce, celery, etc.) because they will cause stomach upset. Feeding greens once a week is ample. Never feed anything sharp, sticky, or sugary. CAUTION: Avoid any types of sugary foods. Dwarf hamsters are very susceptible to diabetes. Other than that, your hamster will thrive on his/her new favorite snacks!

Brook Farm $57.65 Life at Brook Farm resembled an Arcadian adventure, in which the days began with the choir singing Mozart and Haydn and ended with drama and dancing. But how accurate is this image? In the first comprehensive examination of the famous utopian community in West Roxbury, Massachusetts, Sterling Delano reveals a surprisingly grim side to paradise as the Brook Farmers faced relentless financial pressures, a declining faith in their leaders, and smoldering class antagonisms.Delano weaves through this remarkable story the voices of the Brook Farmers themselves, including their founder, George Ripley. Ripley founded Brook Farm in 1841 as an agrarian and pastoral society that would "insure a more natural union between intellectual and manual labor," yet he was surprisingly unprepared to lead it. Three years after its founding, Brook Farm was transformed into an industrial Phalanx. Longtime members departed, and key supporters withdrew. A smallpox scare, a financial lawsuit filed by Nathaniel Hawthorne, and a devastating fire all contributed to the community`s ultimate demise. Despite its failure, however, the Brook Farmers recalled only its positive aspects, including the opportunities there for women and its progressive educational program. In his wonderfully evocative account, Delano gives us a more complete picture than ever before of Brook Farm, and vividly chronicles the spirit of the Transcendental age. |

Pizza Farm $92.4 High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles A pizza farm is an educational visitor attraction consisting of a small farm on a circular region of land partitioned into plots shaped like pizza wedges. The farms segments produce ingredients that can be used in pizza, such as wheat for the crust, tomatoes or herbs, pork for pepperoni, dairy cows for cheese, and even trees for pizza oven firewood. Certain farms may even have access to coal or natural gas deposits that can be used as alternative pizza oven heating fuels. Many of the newer pizza farms are experimenting with alternative energy, such as installing wind turbines in the fields, to be more green. According to a 2005 article in USA Today, there are several such farms in the United States. Author: Surhone, Lambert M./ Timpledon, Miriam T./ Marseken, Susan F. Farm City: $16.34 Urban and rural collide in this wry, inspiring memoir of a woman who turned a vacant lot in downtown Oakland into a thriving farm. Novella Carpenter loves cities—the culture, the crowds, the energy. At the same time, she can’t shake the fact that she is the daughter of two back-to-the-land hippies who taught her to love nature and eat vegetables. Ambivalent about repeating her parents’ disastrous mistakes, yet drawn to the idea of backyard self-sufficiency, Carpenter decided that it might be possible to have it both ways: a homegrown vegetable plot as well as museums, bars, concerts, and a twenty-four-hour convenience mart mere minutes away. Especially when she moved to a ramshackle house in inner city Oakland and discovered a weed-choked, garbage-strewn abandoned lot next door. She closed her eyes and pictured heirloom tomatoes, a beehive, and a chicken coop. What started out as a few egg-laying chickens led to turkeys, geese, and ducks. Soon, some rabbits joined the fun, then two three-hundred-pound pigs. And no, these charming and eccentric animals weren’t pets; she was a farmer, not a zookeeper. Novella was raising these animals for dinner. Novella Carpenter’s corner of downtown Oakland is populated by unforgettable characters. Lana (anal spelled backward, she reminds us) runs a speakeasy across the street and refuses to hurt even a fly, let alone condone raising turkeys for Thanksgiving. Bobby, the homeless man who collects cars and car parts just outside the farm, is an invaluable neighborhood concierge. The turkeys, Harold and Maude, tend to escape on a daily basis to cavort with the prostitutes hanging around just off the highway nearby. Every day on this strange and beautiful farm, urban meets rural in the most surprising ways. For anyone who has ever grown herbs on their windowsill, tomatoes on their fire escape, or obsessed over the offerings at the local farmers’ market, Carpenter’s story will capture your heart. And if you’ve ever considered leaving it all behind to become a farmer outside the city limits, or looked at the abandoned lot next door with a gleam in your eye, consider this both a cautionary tale and a full-throated call to action. Farm City is an unforgettably charming memoir, full of hilarious moments, fascinating farmers’ tips, and a great deal of heart. It is also a moving meditation on urban life versus the natural world and what we have given up to live the way we do. Novella Carpenter grew up in rural Idaho and Washington State. She majored in biology and English at the University of Washington in Seattle. While attending Berkeley’s Graduate School of Journalism, she studied under Michael Pollan for two years. Her urban farm began with a few chickens, then some bees, until she had a full-blown farm near downtown Oakland. |

The Farm - Natural Building Workshop
A Guide to Starting a Horse Farm or Ranch in Kentucky
The Commonwealth of Kentucky is known for its magnificent caves, longest navigable bodies of waters, the two largest man-made lakes that can be found in the east of the Mississippi river, bourbon distilleries, blue grass music, and highly-diverse environment rich in natural resources. More importantly, Kentucky is known as the "Bluegrass" State, as the region is abundant with bluegrass, may it be in lawns or in the pastures.
Thoroughbred horses are also one of the most famous features of Kentucky. With pastures covered with plenty of bluegrass, horse breeding and horse racing became one of the main attractions of this region. Kentucky is known to have produced the best race horses breed in the renowned horse ranches all over the state.
If interested in setting up your own ranch, Kentucky is one of the places most conducive to breeding thoroughbred horses. The region has several areas suitable for starting a farm or ranch. There are a number of available farm and grazing lands are abundant with bluegrass.
Accordingly, here are several factors one must consider before setting up a horse farm or ranch, whether it is for leisure or profit. They are the farm land, grazing land, breed of horses, ranch planning, fencing, labor, capital and time.
Farm or Ranch Planning
The primary thing to do is to lay down an extensive plan. Careful planning leads to a well-organized ranch or farm. There is a basic difference between a ranch and a farm. A farm usually breeds horses for farm work while ranches breed and train horses for races. Write down all the things that are needed in setting up the farm, including the startup cost and possible future expenses such as maintenance. If the budget is limited, the ranch may not be in full form in a short period of time. This is better than sacrificing the quality of the farm and the horses it will breed.
Increase Knowledge in Farm or Ranch Management
Knowledge is an important factor in ranch or farm management. Learn the basics in breeding horses, such as the diet and different types of sickness together with their symptoms. Read books and other materials that tell about horses and proper breeding techniques. Attend seminars on ranch or farm management. It is also an advantage to seek the help of those experts in horse breeding and ranch management.
Find a Suitable Place to Construct the Farm or Ranch
The ranch should be situated in land near pastures. It should be large enough to include a barn, stable, horse exerciser, round pen and outdoor riding area. There should be a road accessible to high traffic areas such as the barns and paddock gates. It is also advisable to place the stable in elevated places for proper drainage and convenience. It is easier to cart a wheel barrow full of manure and other waste in a downward slope. Accordingly, firstkentuckyfsbo offers an extensive list of available lands suitable for setting up a farm or ranch in the Kentucky area.
Fence the Whole Ranch
The whole perimeter of the land should be fenced, which should be periodically maintained. This may entail extra cost but it is a necessary expenditure. In the event that horses got out of the stable especially at night, it is necessary to prevent them from ending up in the streets. Other accidents might also happen when the horses roam out of the farm. The fences will keep the horses inside the farm even if they got out at night. However, the fence should be checked from time to time in case repair is needed.
Importance of Grazing Land
Horses should not be confined in stables. They are social animals and needs to be let out in the open. They need to interact with other horses. A pasture abundant with grass is very beneficial to the proper growth of horses.
Safety of Horses
Also, a vital consideration in starting a horse ranch is the safety of the horses. The farm must have a good lay-out that will ensure precautions to prevent accidents. Regular consultation with a veterinarian is also advisable. The whole ecosystem around the farm should also be protected. Birds and frogs are natural predators of flies, which are considered as pests to horses.
Have Enough Farm Hands
Last, but not the least, have enough number of laborers. Horse breeding is a labor-intensive endeavor. Although this is probably one of the main source of expenditure, having adequate number of farm hands will ensure proper breeding and maintenance of the farm. There are too many chores around the farm that it will not be economical to do all of it without help. Maintaining a ranch is a serious business, even if it is not established for profit. Necessary steps should be taken to ensure the ranch or farm's proper development.
