For the needlepoint canvas designs, try Annie's Attic or Mary Maxim. They have all kinds of that stuff. You can find the website addresses easily enough on Google or Dogpile.
For the cheap crafting supplies, try eBay. Some of their stuff is high, but if you look and shop well, you can get good deals. I know where to get good beading supplies cheap, but unless you're beading that won't help much. (www.firemountaingems.com for beads and www.sfjssantafe.com for anything silver or for wire of various types) These are both wholesalers that also sell to the general public, so it's best if you get two or three friends to combine an order.

St. Thomas’ Church
On your next Port Macquarie holiday, take the time to check out St. Thomas. The St. Thomas Anglican Church of Australia is nestled atop a hill, where it can overlook the town of Port Macquarie. No matter where you are in Port Macquarie, you can see this church, which is one of the most historical buildings in the town. It has served as a landmark in Port Macquarie since it was built, and is the fifth oldest Anglican Church that is still in use by a congregation.
Construction of St. Thomas started in 1824, and was finished in April of 1828. The church is a Georgian architectural structure, built by convict labour, which was overseen by the military. It is almost overwhelming to imagine the work that went into the construction of St. Thomas, as most of the work was done by hand. The bricks, all 365,000 of them, were handmade. If you look closely, you can see a fingerprint as well as some other marks on these bricks. These identifiers were used to help keep count of how many bricks each convict made.
Mortar for the bricks was made by hand as well, from oyster shells that the convicts gathered from Limeburger’s Creek in Port Macquarie. These were burnt to create a substance that acted as mortar. In the nave alone, the walls are three feet thick, and it is said that they are even thicker on the inside of the tower. Spikes and the old-fashioned type of square nails were needed in the construction of St. Thomas, and even these were hand forged by the female convicts.
There is a small chapel on the property where St. Thomas stands. It is called Colonial Chapel of Christ the Healer. This chapel was once used as a hospital dispensary, as a military hospital was once located directly across the road from the church in the spot where you now see St. Agnes Catholic Church. Some of the original red cedar pew boxes, built as a place for families to sit during the services, are still in place inside St. Thomas. Note how they are constructed with high sides, as this was the method used to keep the convicts from gazing at the “free people”.
An interesting fact is that someone is actually buried underneath the front row of pews in St. Thomas. That someone is a Captain Rolland, who died from either sunstroke or an escape attempt, depending on what history book you are using. He was buried here, before St. Thomas was completely finished. The grounds had already been declared as holy land in preparation of the building of the church, and it was felt that if he were interred here, the chances of the convicts desecrating his grave were much smaller.
You will want to pay special attention to the pipe organ in St. Thomas. It is a Walker pipe organ, and the only pipe organ made this way in the entire Southern Hemisphere. In1906, a stained glass window depicting St. Thomas was placed in the church as a memorial to E.D. Day. The circular staircase was built in 1970 by a Port Macquarie artisan. Don’t forget to check out the kneelers at the altar rail. These were replaced in 2000 with a specially designed needlepoint pattern that was created and stitched by The Friendly Threads of St. Thomas, a group of local women. In addition, you must see the muniments room, with its photos, historic documents, and musical instruments that were once used in the church.
You can see St. Thomas on weekdays from 9:30 AM to 12 noon and from 2 PM to 4 PM. A church history booklet can be had for an AU $5 contribution to the Restoration Fund for the church.
