renting the rug doctor? carper cleaner?
Is it like dirty to rent a carpet cleaner?? I never did it before but they have one at the store.. my rugs aren't really that dirty because we take our shoes off, but my daughter has gotten marker and small spots on the carpet. I don't have any animals and someone said that if the person before me had the rug doctor and had fleas inth carpet that i would get fleas
i have used those many times. they do a decent job. one thing you will be surprised at is how dirty the water is when you dump the collection tank. forget the flea thing.

Your at his mercy when it comes to the carpet for the most part. It's not in writing or anything that he was going to replace it. It's most likely that he simply said that to intice you to move in and now that he has you, what does he care about follow through. Why would there be a sign that the dryer takes longer to get the clothes dry? That's definitly annoying and i'm actually have the exact same problem at my place, but it's our responsibility to check the clothes and make sure they're done or set it to dry them further, so again not their problem. Mostly he sounds like a crappy landlord, but there's also the chance that, remember you said it, this economy is really crappy and I doubt he makes all that much money to be updating everything that you desire. I would think that the alarm/detector would be a mandatory item to have in his units. You could do some research further into that. Also, if your having legitamate mold issues, then you've got a case. Maybe call the health department, or threaten to at least because you cannot be living in an apartment that can cause harm to your health and it's the landlords responsibility to make sure there is no mold. Stuff like that could make it possible for you to legally break your lease or at least make him take care of the problem.
