You might want to try 'se' (reflexive) first and see how it sounds. Juan y Lola se levantaron? Yes, it makes sense. Juan se pregunto a Lola? No, it doesn't make sense to say Juan asked himself to Lola. So all you have to do is choose the direct or indirect object. Juan le pregunto? Makes sense. Ella le dijo? Makes sense. Etc. The only tricky one is El camarero se lo trajo, where you have both direct and indirect objects. Spanish doesn't allow you to say 'le lo' because it sounds awkward, so you have to change it to 'se lo'.
