Beige Floral Rug

how do you clean a 5x8 cotton rug that is really filthy?

i've used woolite rug cleaner and it has made the rug have a very dull finish. it's a floral rug with a beige background. however, it now looks gray and dinghy. please help. thank you.

Make up a solution of the following
4oz household soap
2 tablespoons vinegar (white)
2 pints boiling water

grate the soap into a bucket add the vinegar and boiling water.
Froth up with a whisk. Apply suds to the carpet using a brush. Blot excess water with an old towel. Finish by wiping over with a damp cloth wrung out in clean water.
If you can try to dry the rug outside.
