How can I remove dark marks from cream/beige wallpaper without removing the colour?

I'm moving out of my apartment in a few weeks and noticed some dark marks on the walls in the living room. The wallpaper is cream/beige and I'd like to get rid of them without messing up the wallpaper.

They are quite thick in places, not even sure what they are from!

A dry sponge works on a lot of different marks. I used toothpaste on crayon marks on my daughters wallpaper and it left a dull spot. White bread sometimes works too. Read the article from Don Aslett the cleaning guru on HGTV. Good luck!
