Can I install Carpet Over Old Carpet?

Hello,

is there anyway to put new carpet over old carpet and have it put in place. I live in an apartment and dont want to remove the landlord's carpet and I dont want to use area rug...The current carpet is brown and I want beige carpet throughout.

You can't do it the right way without damaging the existing carpet and doors. The new carpet will need tack strips or tape that will damage the old stuff. The doors will need to be planed to fit over the two layers of carpet.

Why not talk to your landlord about this. He may not care if you change the carpet especially if the stuff that's there already is getting old.
