Aubusson Rug Can I dye spots in my wool rug that were bleached by dog vomit.? My dog has recovered, but my rug has not.?
The rug is Belgian wool, in an Aubusson pattern. It has a dark green background. That is the area of most noticeable damage. The rug has been cleaned professionally and they mentioned dyeing the lighter areas. The cost for them to do it is prohibitive, I am willing to risk doing it myself. The rug is in otherwise excellent condition. It is 10'X13'in size, so moving it out of the house by myself is not an option.
The spots were caused by the bile in my ill dogs vomit. They are similar in appearence to bleach marks, but not as light. I thought perhaps there was a way to use a liquid dye, such as Rit to blend the spots so they aren't as noticable. How would I make the dye colorfast, so it wouldn't come off on peoples feet or shoe bottoms?
Idelible markers are colofast and you would be coloring with a Marks alot felt tip pen basically

Area rugs are generally divided into two main classifications: the Western and the Asian. It was found out that Western Area Rugs originated in Spain during the 13th century. These were woven intricately by those from the Islamic nations and were then imported.
It was not until the 17th century that France became the popular maker of area rugs in Europe. The cities of Aubusson and Savonnerie became the centers of making rugs in the western world back then. But during the later years, England rose to become one of the famous makers of amazing area rugs. Soon, carpets were made by the use of machines. However, these were not as beautiful as those which where woven by hand. Plus, the machine-made carpets were inexpensive compared to those which were hand woven. Area rugs were said to have been made in Egypt during the ancient times. Most of these rugs were flat and were used in praying chambers and not for decoration.
During the 19th century, America produced area rugs that are reversible and made of wool. These kind of area rugs are popularly known as ingrain carpet. During those times, middleclass families have area rugs which were braided or made from clothing fabrics. Comparing the rugs before from today, the ones made today come in a wide variety of designs and materials. As time went by, the production of area rugs became more popular.
