Visit Abyaneh Village to Enrich Your Iran Travel
Abyaneh village is one of the most stunning and interesting tourist attractions in Iran from various viewpoints. During you Iran travel period, it will be an unforgettable experience to pay a visit to this village.
Location of Abyaneh Village
After almost 75 km drive from Kashan toward Natanz, you get to an intersection from which you turn right toward Abyaneh. At the end of this 23-km dead-end road you get to the village spread on a hillside to the left of the road. The village is at a point where altitude is relatively higher than the intersection.
Being down the hill toward a fertile valley, it's protected by the natural landscape. Yet, since antiquity, the inhabitants had planned certain measures and structures to safeguard the lives of the people from bandits and other invaders.
Abyaneh's Architecture
The first architectural feature of this village is the adobe color of its houses. They are mud-made houses built in absolute harmony with the color of the surrounding nature and cold of the winter. Abyaneh is a multi-leveled village constructed with local materials accessible in the surrounding mountains.
Houses are built with thick bearing walls, rock foundations, wooden beam ceilings and beautiful wood windows. The lanes between them are narrow with tall walls. Many houses have got terraces in front them which are part of the lower house ceiling. The entrances of some of the houses are recessed within a chamber-like space having a low ceiling. At some cases, there are two seats built with constructional materials at both sides of the entrances.
Source of Income
Most of the people are farmers working in cooperatives formed with adjacent villages. They grow various fruits and vegetables. The harvest period is a busy time when the inhabitants of all the neighboring villages work together to collect the crops. Some fruits are sold when fresh to the near-by towns and some are dried to be sold later.
Handmade jewelry and ornaments made with glass, ceramics, etc are common handicrafts and a workshop makes local silver items with traditional designs.
When you visit Abyaneh, you see the local people sitting at the seats in front of their entrance doors selling these items to the domestic as well as foreign tourists. It's a good way of supporting their economy.
Unique Cultural Aspects
Culture is one of the main attractions you will notice in Abyaneh village. People are proudly dressed in their local costumes, speaking their language still containing some middle Persian words from Sassanian era.
There are some traces of fire temples at some corners of the village. One major instance is now part of the main passageway of the village.
Since people have converted to Islam several centuries ago, as Shiite Muslims, they stick to their religious traditions and ceremonies. Sometimes, you may see some aspects of the ancient religions in their day-to-day lives as well. For instance, burning fire in braziers or buckets in front of their houses to welcome someone who is back from a significant journey is one of such ceremonies.
The commemoration of Imam Hossein's martyrdom is one of the highlights of the ceremonies held in this village. The entire inhabitants participate in Asura ceremonies held in such a day showing respect and sympathy to the cause of this event.
Abyaneh Monuments
Make sure you include a visit to some of the interesting sights, items, etc of the village when you choose an Iran travel package. The chief mosque has got a beautiful wooden door and a mehrab from Seljuk period, some old houses that are typically indicative of the architecture of the village, few watch towers and protective walls at the top of the hillside, and a caravansary on the opposite hills are some examples.
